No one begotten by God commits sin…for he has eternal life. The human person was created for relationship. He/she was created to be in relationship with his/her creator in whose image and likeness he/she was created, as well as with his/her fellow creature. The human person was to maintain this relationship, for his/her wellbeing and happiness depended on this. But the human person did not heed God’s decree and decided to disengage him/herself from this relationship. He/she she sinned. Because God did not want the human person to live apart from the life-giving relationship, God sent Jesus to show him/her how to get back into this relationship. By loving as Jesus loved, the human person could right the wrongs that had been done. In our First Reading, John tells us that the human person can indeed achieve this because he/she has been adopted by God in Jesus Christ. Moreover, he/she can maintain his/her place in this relationship because he/she is protected by God. All that he/she has to do is to keep discerning the truth (Jesus Christ).
